St. Clair County Traffic Court Records
Traffic court records in St. Clair County split between state and city courts. The St. Clair County District Court hears state traffic cases. Its records are kept by the Circuit Clerk at the Ashville and Pell City offices. Municipal courts keep traffic and ordinance cases issued into their city systems. The court name on the citation controls. A city police stop does not always prove municipal jurisdiction, so read the issuing court and charging authority printed on the ticket.
The court record can show the citation, plea, settings, disposition, costs, and payments. Alabama's paid Alacourt and Just One Look services can supply state trial-court details. AlaPay may identify a payable citation and accept payment, but it is not a complete chronological docket. A municipal matter starts with that city's official court page and clerk. Appeals may later create a Circuit Court case.
St. Clair State or City Ticket
Two tickets issued in St. Clair County can follow different dockets. A state citation can be set in District Court and routed to the unified Circuit Clerk. A municipal citation stays with Moody, Pell City, Leeds, Margaret, Odenville, or another issuing city's court. The state clerk cannot reliably answer for a city docket, and a city clerk does not keep the District Court file.
| Clue | State Traffic | Municipal Traffic |
|---|---|---|
| Named court | St. Clair County District Court | Issuing city's municipal court |
| Custodian | Circuit Clerk | Municipal court clerk |
| First fallback | Ashville or Pell City office | Official city court page or clerk |
Use the citation number and party name exactly as printed. If the court heading is unclear, call the issuing agency or clerk before choosing an online portal. This one step prevents payment to, or a records request from, the wrong system.
Looking Up a Traffic Ticket
Start with the printed citation. Record its number, the court, the issuing agency, the name as written, and the appearance or response date. The official AlaPay system is Alabama's online payment route for eligible cases. The Alabama Traffic Service Center provides traffic help, and the Circuit Clerk handles the District Court file. City tickets require the municipal clerk or the city's named payment tool.
- Identify District Court or the specific municipal court from the citation.
- Use the citation or case identifier in the issuing court's official channel.
- For a state matter, check AlaPay only if payment is an intended option.
- If no result appears, call 866-954-9399 or the correct court clerk.
- Confirm the setting, payable status, amount, and response deadline with the court.
Ashville's Circuit Clerk number is 205-594-2184. Pell City's is 205-338-2511. Counter service is available on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The state traffic page also permits qualifying traffic proof and payments by mail to the correct office.
St. Clair Traffic Tickets in AlaPay
The official AlaPay source shows the citation and payment interface used for eligible Alabama cases.
The screen supports the payment path, not every filing, prior setting, or court action. A citation that does not appear can be too new, not payable online, entered in a municipal system, or keyed under different identifying details. Do not treat an empty result as cancellation. Call the issuing court and keep the printed response date in view.
Payment is a court action: Paying can function as a plea and disposition. A person who wishes to contest the citation should follow the court instructions instead of paying first.
Missing St. Clair Traffic Tickets
A ticket that does not appear in AlaPay may still be active. It may be too new for the payment system, set for a required appearance, filed in a municipal court, or entered under details that differ from the search. AlaPay is a payment channel, so an empty result is not a court ruling and does not cancel the date printed on the citation.
Check the issuing court first. For a state citation, call the Traffic Service Center or the correct District Clerk counter. For a city citation, contact that municipal court. Give the exact citation number, name as printed, issuing agency, and response date. Ask whether the case is filed, whether it can be paid, and whether an appearance is required.
How to Find Your Traffic Court Date
The citation's printed date is the starting point, but the newest court notice or docket setting controls after a reset. St. Clair County has no single official daily calendar covering District Court and all municipal courts. Confirm a state traffic setting with the Circuit Clerk or assigned District Court. Confirm a municipal setting with that city's clerk. Do not infer the current date from an old event that remains in the history.
| Citation or Case ID | Use the identifier exactly as printed; do not remove punctuation. |
|---|---|
| Court | St. Clair District Court or the named municipal court. |
| Date and Time | The appearance, plea, hearing, or trial setting. |
| Location | The courthouse, city court, division, and room when listed. |
| Status | Pending, payable, reset, disposed, or another court-entered status. |
When a notice and online entry conflict, call the assigned court. Ask staff to read the newest setting and verify the location. A payment deadline is not always the same as a mandatory appearance date.
St. Clair Traffic Service Fallback
The Alabama Traffic Service Center page is an official fallback for state ticket questions.
Call 866-954-9399 when a state ticket is not clear or does not appear in the expected payment route. Card payments by phone use 877-252-7294. These channels do not replace the assigned court for a disputed setting, nonpayable citation, missing case, or mandatory appearance. The clerk remains the record custodian.
For a city ticket, contact the municipal court instead. The statewide help line cannot merge municipal and District dockets, and each city sets its own sessions and clerk procedures.
Pay or Contest a Ticket
A payable St. Clair state traffic citation may be paid on or before the court date. Payment can function as a plea and dispose of the case. Contesting means following the appearance instruction and entering the proper plea in court. The St. Clair page does not publish a general promise of deferred disposition or driving-school eligibility, a deadline, or a fee. Ask the issuing court about any option before acting.
| Paying the Ticket | Contesting the Ticket |
|---|---|
| Use only when the case is listed as payable. | Follow the citation and court instructions for a plea. |
| Pay on or before the court date. | Appear or respond by the stated deadline. |
| AlaPay, phone card channel, mail, or clerk as allowed. | The issuing District or municipal court. |
Missed setting: A missed mandatory date can lead to further court action, a failure-to-appear or warrant consequence, and a licensing consequence. Call the issuing court at once. Online payment does not necessarily clear a missed appearance or warrant.
St. Clair No-Insurance Proof
St. Clair County publishes a specific route for some no-insurance citations. The District Court page says an appearance is not required when qualifying proof is supplied by the court date and shows that the vehicle had insurance at the time it was driven. Month-to-month policies are not accepted under that local instruction.
The proof may be delivered in person or mailed before the court date for an out-of-court dismissal. Edge cases belong with the clerk because the page does not state every policy or fee detail. Use the Ashville or Pell City address tied to the case. Do not assume that later coverage proves coverage on the citation date.
Note: Confirm the evidence and deadline with the District Clerk before mailing original or time-sensitive insurance material.
Traffic Court Record vs Driving Record
Two records have different custodians. The District or municipal court keeps the traffic case file. It shows the citation, plea, settings, disposition, costs, and payments. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency keeps the state driving record and reportable driving history. A request for the court case belongs with the issuing court. A request for the other file belongs with ALEA.
| Court Traffic Record | Driver Record | |
|---|---|---|
| Kept By | District or municipal court clerk | Alabama Law Enforcement Agency |
| Shows | Citation, plea, settings, disposition, costs, payments | Reportable state driving history |
| How to Get It | Court channel or clerk request | ALEA record-request channel |
The relevant public record is the court file. A payment screen is narrower because it may show an amount and status without the full event history or filed orders.
St. Clair Traffic Docket Volume
The official St. Clair traffic court instructions set out the District Court payment and proof routes.
The local emphasis makes sense in the filing data. Alabama's FY2021 report counted 16,085 District Court filings in St. Clair County, and about 63 percent were traffic matters. That was roughly 10,134 traffic filings, subject to rounding. Traffic thus outweighed District criminal, small-claims, juvenile, civil, and child-support categories.
The size of the traffic docket also explains why jurisdiction matters. Those state figures do not combine every city court case into one county calendar.
Copies and Fees
A traffic case amount is case-specific. AlaPay displays the payable amount when the matter is eligible. The St. Clair page does not publish a standard clerk copy or certification price, a deferred-program fee, or an added failure-to-appear fee. Ask the issuing clerk for current terms. Personal checks are not accepted and will be returned.
| Item | Fee | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Online or phone payment | Case-specific | Card phone line: 877-252-7294 |
| Personal check | Not accepted | Returned by the clerk |
| No-insurance proof dismissal | Not published | Submit qualifying proof by the court date |
| Plain or certified copy | Not published | Ask the issuing court clerk |
For a copy, give the citation or case number, the person's name, the court, and the exact item needed. State whether a plain or certified copy is required. Confirm the fee, payment form, mailing instructions, and turnaround before sending a request.
St. Clair Traffic Clerk Counters
State traffic payments and proof route to one of two District Clerk addresses. Ashville uses Clerk of District Court, 100 6th Avenue, Suite 400, Ashville, AL 35953. Pell City uses Clerk of District Court, 1815 Cogswell Avenue, Suite 217, Pell City, AL 35125. Both clerk offices publish 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekday hours.

Use the location named on the citation or confirmed by the clerk. A municipal citation goes to its city court instead. Before visiting, ask whether the case is filed at that seat, whether the intended response is allowed at the counter, and what payment form or proof to bring.
